The Chronicles of Manimal And Samara – Exclusive track by track album feature

Unstoppable UK alternative duo, The Chronicles of Manimal And Samara, set loose their much-anticipated new album, Origins, on Friday. With a sounds that spans from prog, metal, rock and beyond, we asked the band to give us an exclusive track by track breakdown of the album:

Track 1: “Feed the Beast”

“Feed the Beast” is a song about addiction and recovery. It is the tumultuous and painful inner journey of learning how to live all over again.

Daphne: “Feed the Beast” was the second song we worked on in this album. This was the point where I began to discover a new voice – my singing voice. The creation of this song’s vocals began with melodies that I would hear in my head. When I found myself humming the same tune again and again, I knew it was the one. I dedicated myself to training my singing voice and learning different vocal techniques so that I could use my voice to sing, instead of just singing in my mind.

Track 2: “Bite the Bullet”

What happens when you really get to know your role model’s true nature.

Andrea: Usually our meetings happen at the pub, this time we invited our good friend Mr Meuri to collaborate on vocals for an instrumental track I created. He’s an awesome rap artist who has performed and worked with many well-known Italian artists.

Daphne: Collaborating with Mr. Meuri on this track really inspired me to finally try my hand at rapping, something I’ve always wanted to do but never had the chance or courage to pursue. It was a great experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone to explore a new creative outlet.

Track 3: “Waves”

You find out who your true friends are only in stormy waters.

This song is about the unpredictability of life and how quickly we can transition from safety and comfort to peril without noticing.

Track 4: “Per Astra”

This song is for all those who left us too soon.

Daphne: Grief is the price of love. But those who love beyond the world cannot be separated by it. Death ends life, not a connection. This is what was in my heart when I wrote the song.

Track 5: “Mysterium Tremendum”

“Mysterium Tremendum” delves into the duality of mankind’s experience of the numinous – a mysterious force that evokes both fear and wonder, causing humanity to tremble in awe and terror.

Daphne: This song has a section with a full orchestra which we composed and arranged ourselves. I had to study how the different classical instruments were played so I could recreate them faithfully on the keyboard. It took a long time for me to compose and record the orchestral section which had all the instruments in the string, woodwind, and brass sections, and for Andrea to get the orchestral effects right in the mixing stage.

Track 6: “It goes”

It happens to everybody, sooner or later.

Andrea: My staff gave me a very old classical guitar as a gift for my birthday. So I wanted to find a way to put it to use.”
