Welsh riff slingers, House of Hosts, have delivered their mightily impressive new single and video, “Oblivion”. With the band climbing high, we exclusively checked in and asked which tracks have greatly influenced their enticing sound:
The Relentless – “Me Against The Devil”
Dan: This track helped inspire the style of lyrics and vocals. The duality between the light singing melody and the harshness of the chorus. Showing conflict within one’s self, projecting his reality through song. I also love the film The American Satan.
Black Stone Cherry – “White Trash Millionaire”
Beth: It inspires me musically because the drums are so prominent, powerful and hard-hitting. They add a steady base to the track and allows for the “Southern rock” catchy guitar licks to flow without stealing the limelight too much!
Genuinely makes the track sound HUGE and I love it!
Audioslave – “Cochise”
James: To be honest this could be any song by Tom Morello. The way he’s able to take the theme of a riff and grow it in a whole song yet keep them as completely distinct sections is awesome. You can probably hear a bit of a nod to him in the “noise” part of the solo before the breakdown.

John Petrucci – “Temple of Circadia”
Ross: I love this track! it’s the chunky tone of the guitars. I’m typically a solo guitarist in a band so plenty of space sound wise. This has led me to think about that considering there’s two of us! This style of Soloing, riff composition and contrast; is my inspiration.
Bring Me The Horizon – “Wonderful Life”
Bring Me’s ability to come up with a strikingly catchy riff and combine it with a striking breakdown and a catchy, singable chorus manages to make you thrash around in the pit one second, and then sing at the top of your lungs the next.
