Track-By-Track: Zebedy – Waiting For The Tide

Exciting North Wales progressive heavy rock crew Zebedy charge ahead with the release of their enticing new album, Waiting For The Tide, out on Friday, 3rd February, produced by Dan Weller (SikTh, Enter Shikari). With that in mind, we exclusively asked the band to give us this track-by-track breakdown of the release:

Revelations

The opener is about the complexities and confusions that arise in relationships and the consequences of them. It’s also about the struggle to define yourself as an individual when you’ve never been alone.

Bloom

The lyrics for this track focus on the rise of rebellion in the Middle East in recent years and about not being complacent, always striving for something better or more.

Set the Pace (see the video below)

STP conveys the realisation that we are sometimes our own worst enemy, and that if you need to change something about yourself then it’s up to you to set the pace.

Building Sandcastles (video)

Our last single, Building Sandcastle, is based around the fact that something comes from nothing and will eventually return to nothing. It’s about being ok with the fact that we are here in the blink of an eye, it’s beautiful, it’s scary in equal measure, but enjoy the time you have.

My Name is Forever

This song is about being with someone for a long amount of time and realising they’ve been controlling you, using you. They put a fake smile out there for all to see but it’s not real. It concludes with seeing the real truth. It touches on social media and how people can make themselves appear, however, they can’t fool everyone forever.

Mask The Sky

We came up with this track during a practice and as we started developing the song, we realised the music had a strong enough voice of its own without vocals. It’s sounds different to other Zebedy songs but deep down the dynamics and the way all the instruments work together is 100% what Zebedy do.

Well-Being

This one was collaboration with Dan Weller. Jonny came up with the guitar chord progression, which is something he made up at the end of a Zebedy practice three years ago, and wasn’t sure where to go with it. Dan then got his keyboard and started vibing, and so did David. We recorded the song that day, and Dan edited the track together.

This City Is Ours (video)

Originally, this track was a slow song, potentially an acoustic song but Jonny made a change and created the vocal melody first. When the rest of the band started playing it, the song started developing and we knew it was going to be a bit heavier. It’s probably the most commercial sounding song we have with a Hundred Reasons vibe, the lyrics are in general about being positive and striving to do better.
