We’re no strangers to the might of Hedra, so it’s with great pleasure that we get to take you on a stroll through the bleak and violent wastelands of their upcoming EP The Pecking Order. The EP is out on November 11th, and they’ve recently released a new video from it, “Jackdaw”, which you can see at the end of this article.
This was the track which inspired the concept, during the pandemic Jim was visited daily by a Jackdaw whilst on furlough, the bird made it to the local papers for its friendly behaviours. “It was quite bizarre, I’d never seen a bird behave in such a friendly manor, he’d come and land on my hand and just look at me, then one day he just disappeared as people started returning to work”.

Ultimately this one was about the source of the pandemic the bat that supposedly caused the covid spread and, how we were not protected soon enough by the hierarchy and it affected our mental health and environment.
Suchi
This one is more personal, about being stuck inside and having to put up with constant lies in the media we were stuck like monkeys locked in a cage so, this one is more about the frustration of being dictated to and the rules being broken ‘death to your word’, Suchi meaning a place to have a good time, a sarcastic title!

It’s about pulling together during those tough times, we did see a lot of that as well, people doing online shows and making the best of things. ‘The car crash’ in the lyrics represents the fact that anything can happen in our lives that we never think will happen, wolves have these same instincts, the song is meant to be a positive one to watch out for each other.
Stormclouds [video]
This one is more about the aftermath of it all, how we have to fight to survive, the comparison to animals once again, it’s an emotional song, a depressing one, living with depression can feel like there’s always a storm coming and the pandemic made things much worse for many of us. The video doesn’t represent this at all, we really kept the true meaning in the background, it’s great to write lyrics to something that can relate in any which way people want them to mean to them. “
