We checked in with rampant UK deathcore crew Beyond Extinction who return to the fold with their explosive new single “Eyes of God, Look Down Upon Me”, out Friday 14th October. We asked the guys to throwdown the six tracks that have greatly influenced their ferocious sound:
Black Tongue – I’m So Tired of Sighing, Please Lord Let It Be Night [video]
This song contains one of, if not the most immense breakdowns in deathcore history. The build-up of samples, synths, and vocal lines all culminating in a brutally heavy breakdown was one of our biggest influences in songwriting. We took a lot of influence from their use of silence, as well as non-instrumental elements to layer the songs, which has been a big part of the sound of our new material.
Cannibal Corpse – Scourge of Iron [video]
We wanted to pay homage to our death metal roots in this new music, so we turned to one of the bands that has been a consistent source of savagery across their whole career – Cannibal Corpse. You’ll hear their gritty influence in songs like Eyes of God, Look Down Upon Me.
Enterprise Earth – Sus Cibum [video]
Patient Zero-era Enterprise Earth had some of the most uncompromisingly heavy and brutal riffing in all of deathcore. Their approach to songwriting influenced us greatly, informing our use of drop D1 tuning and haunting textures behind the riffs, as well as the general suffocating atmospheres and relentless guitar-based approach of these songs.

Archspire – Drone Corpse Aviator [video]
While we aren’t anywhere near as technical as these Canadian speed freaks, their relentless approach to writing the most fast and brutal music greatly influenced our development between our last EP and our new material. With Bleed the Future, the band developed every aspect of their music – the heavy parts got heavier, the slow parts slower, and of course, the fast parts faster. This development gave us a similar outlook on our own progression, expanding every aspect of our sound to truly develop our own identity.
Meshuggah – Demiurge [video]
The unstoppable force of Meshuggah’s music, with its explosive drums, low tuning and apocalyptic sound, has been a massive influence on our music. Taking their punishing sound and combining it with thunderous breakdowns, we decided that tuning far below most deathcore bands would be the best way to audibly present Armageddon.
Ingested – The List [video]
In addition to international metal bands, we looked to groups carrying the torch for UK death metal and deathcore. Ingested’s refined brutality and expansive sound inspired a lot of the chuggy sections that are layered with choir voices and eerie synths on this single and much of the new material we’ve created.
