Metallica exhibition & “Murder In The Front Row” UK premiere – House of Vans, London (19th June 2019)

House of Vans in London are currently hosting an exhibition titled “Hardwired… And Early Dayz” which explores the history of Metallica through never-before-seen photos, magazine covers, memorabilia and live imagery. The exhibition runs until 1st September and is split into three parts: Hardwired (focusing on the band’s latest album, including never-seen-before photos from award-winning photographer Tom Barnes), The Early Dayz (a trip down memory lane from the very first demos, through to …And Justice For All including bespoke artwork and pieces of ephemera, and the third section is devoted to Metallica’s gig at House of Vans back in 2016, featuring memorabilia and live footage from the show. The band’s Enter Night pilsner is also available from the bar for the duration of the exhibition.

When I headed along to check out exhibition on Wednesday evening, I also got to watch the UK premiere of “Murder in the Front Row” – a feature-length documentary telling the definitive story of San Francisco Bay Area thrash. The documentary features new and exclusive interviews with musicians who made the Bay Area scene so iconic, including members of Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Exodus, Testament and more. I wasn’t big on my knowledge of the Bay Area thrash scene before so found the documentary really interesting, and it was very well put-together – featuring live footage and sound recordings from the early eighties.

“From the tape-trading network, to the clubs, to the record stores and fanzines, director Adam Dubin reveals how the scene nurtured the music and the music spawned a movement”.

In addition to the exhibition and the film, House of Vans also hosted a Metallica Pop-Up shop on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th of June where fans were able to buy exclusive band merchandise that was not available at the Twickenham Stadium show on 20 June.

All the information relating to the “Hardwired… And Early Dayz” exhibition can be found here, and you can find out more about the “Murder In The Front Row” documentary here.
