Wildfire Band Profile – Valafar

In case you didn’t know (get out from under that rock!) we’re hosting a third stage at Wildfire this year on the Saturday and Sunday. Just to make sure you know what mouthwatering musical delights are heading your way, we’ll be featuring a profile of each of “our” bands in the runup!

Wildfire is held at Wiston Lodge, about 30 mins south of Glasgow, from June 23rd to 25th and tickets can be purchased from the official website.

Name: Valafar

From: Bradford

Playing: Sunday, 16:10

Hailing from Bradford, Valafar is a death metal group intent on producing music so heavy that it could level a mountain range. The quintet consists of Wayne Jackson (vocals), Neil Blanchett (guitar), Ben Cook (drums), Nige Mason (bass), and Kyle Moon (guitar), and they have two releases to their name; their 2013 demo, Ritual of the Diabolical, and their 2015 full-length album Helheim.

The group are currently working on releasing a second full-length album, set for release mid-to-late 2017, so those of you heading to Wildfire just might be lucky enough to hear some new tracks before the album drops.

Valafar’s intense sound follows much in the same vein as classic death metal bands such as Obituary and Entombed, bringing back the messy, barbaric style of play which characterised death metal when the genre was still in its infancy. Though Valafar’s music carries enough weight to crush a sun, there is also a surprising amount of groove in their music, as well as some clean, crisp guitar solos which are reminiscent of classic NWOBH era bands.

Not a group to be passed upon, Valafar will be playing on Sunday the 25th on the Moshville Times stage at Wildfire Festival.
