Brief History: The Adelphi came into existence in its current form in 1984 but this club on a quiet residential street in Hull already had a colourful history. As a working men’s club it escaped a Luftwaffe bomb during the Second World War! Since 1984 it has become a landmark on the UK touring circuit and is known for its shabby chic and enthusiastic crowds.

Personal Experience: The Adelphi is as famous for the character of the club as it is the bands that have played there. This is another of the venues on the Independent Venue Week’s list that I have had the honour of performing at and believe me if you have played the Adelphi you’ll remember it. It has a character, especially in the live room that is colourful, full of life and with a great vibe. Throughout the rest of the club I think what we all remembered the best is that the men’s toilet had no door – or infact any cubicles around the toilets. Fun times are still to be had at The Adelphi, long may it continue!

Notable Acts Played Here: Green Day, Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, Pulp, Radiohead

Highlights Coming Up: Neon Waltz 28th Feb, The Blank Tapes, 3rd March, Idles 28th March
