Gig Review: Orion SFX presents A Halloween/Children’s Charity event (4th Nov 2017)

On Saturday night at The Unicorn in Camden, Orion SFX presented a very special Halloween show to help unfortunate children with cancer. Filled with monsters, professional SFX artists, a jazzed up venue, and some local London bands.

I didn’t quite make it in time to catch the first band, Immortal Machinery, but I heard they were very good!

Prolapse A.D. were the first band I saw, a thrash metal band with just a hint of irony and a disregard of its own self. Their influences are Metallica, Anthrax and Judas Priest to name a few. They were very entertaining, and laid the groundwork for Bangover who played next, but not as we have seen them before. They are currently without a permanent drummer at the moment, so Fionn who usually just sticks with entertaining us with his charm, wit and of course vocal abilities, was on drums that night. Jack Taylor played guitar and took lead vocals and he did an awesome job.

There was lots of support and a pit soon started up. It continued for Deep Throat Trauma, a band that never disappoints with their music and entertainment – they give 110% always. The usual inflatables were thrown about, much to the crowd’s delight. There was also a birthday that night, and Deep throat Trauma asked the lady on stage to help her celebrate the evening. They finished their set with Bangover joining them for a joint vocals and dancing session.

Headlining were Dead Man’s Chest a five-piece band with influences of Slayer, Hatebreed and Stampin’ Ground. To hear them go to their Bandcamp page or see them at the Underworld in Camden on 12th November.

Organiser Aga Jackman from orion SFX said this of the evening:

I would like to thank everyone that came on Saturday! The Unicorn event was absolutely amazing, with a large turn out, laughs and head-banging all around. Each band has done an amazing job and I couldn’t be happier with everything that went on that night. GUYS THANK YOU!!!!! Massive shout out to our SFX artists Matt Pagni and Roxy Ley for spoiling our crowd and artists with their awesome make ups! Tomasz Podolecki for support and all the sweet goodies :)

Unfortunately I do not have good news for the charity fund-raising. We only found out on the night we would not receive a cut from the bar. We’ve been given £60 and this money has been put towards the costs , I’m absolutely gutted.

Aga is hoping to set up a crowdfunding page.
