Katie sent in this mini-review of Against The Current’s impromptu appearance at this year’s Download Festival…
American pop-rock band Against The Current were a last-minute addition to the line-up on Saturday at Download Festival, filling in for Architects who had to pull out due to a family emergency.
In the absence of the usual hoards of teenage girls, my friends and I managed to get to the barrier for their set on the second stage, where we had just watched Juliette & The Licks.
Against The Current were by far the most ‘pop’ act on all weekend (closely followed by All Time Low who headlined the same stage the day before) but they put their all into it, played their most ‘rock’ tracks and I personally think they smashed it, considering they had just 36 hours notice and had not played together as a full band for over two months.
“Who here doesn’t know who the fuck we are or why we are here?!” asked pint-sized lead singer Chrissy Costanza…hundreds of hands flew into the air, but to me it seemed like their set went down rather well with the unsuspecting crowd. Perhaps they made a couple of new fans that day!
If you want to give them a go Against The Current are touring the UK later this year. Scroll down to check out Katie’s photos (from behind the barrier and through a fair amount of rain!)
