Thunder – The Attic, Garage, Glasgow (19th Feb 2015)

Thunder - Wonder Days[avatar user=”Ross” size=”50″ align=”left” /]As you may or may not know, Thunder have a new album and it’s fantastic. In promotion of Wonder Days, they’ve been up and down the country doing in-store signings with some acoustic sets thrown in for good measure.

I was one of the lucky 80 people to witness Thunder play a short set in the Attic of the Garage, courtesy of Donald MacLeod.

Receiving a rapturous response and appearing much early than scheduled it allowed us to hear another couple of songs. In between the jokes and the innuendos, Thunder treated us to a short but fantastic set. Alongside the classics like “Backstreet Symphony” and “Low Life in High Places”, we got some new material like “Resurrection Day” and “Black Water”. The performance of the latter was a hairs-standing-on-the-back-of-your-neck moment. It was haunting and excellent in equal measure.

Even as an acoustic set, they were great. As a full electric show they’re even better. Bowes’ voice that you hear on any album is what you hear in the flesh.

Sadly, for the time being, this will be Thunder’s only jaunt north of the border as they do an arena tour next month with Reef and Tax the Heat. However, my excitement for seeing them at Download has only increased. More bands should do acoustic sets. Much like Thunder, they’re an under-rated gem.
