Album preview: Methane – The Devil’s Own

Just a quickie (oo-er). The lovely lads at Methane gave us a sneak early listen to their forthcoming album The Devil’s Own and it’s a great piece of southern metal in the vein of Pantera.

Long story short, it is well worth keeping an ear out for. Crunching, simple riffs coupled with gritty vocals will have you banging your head in no time and the band have a knack of writing songs that just worm into your head. The vocals are clear, so you’ll be able to sing along after the first listen, too.

Amongst all the groove-y numbers, there’s a ballad/dark number, “Stone Garden” which is heavy as all Hell. A departure from the other songs and a highlight as a result. Contrast it with the machine-gun pace of “Spit On Your Grave”‘s intro or the head-bobbing beat of “Blood, Sweat and Beer” (available as a video for 10 months and embedded below) and this definitely isn’t a one-trick pony.

If you like your metal coated in batter, seasoned with eleven secret spices and served by a gentleman in a white jacket then this should be on your list to buy on release day.

This is their first release through their partnership with Sony/DarkStar and you can get it in digital form from the 17th February. Pre-orders for the CD, which is available from May 5th, begin on the same date.
