Åpenbaring is the solo work of Jørgen Sven Kirby who also has other musical projects such as Sykelig Englen (Depressive Black Metal) and Arboretum (Death/folk metal). Åpenbaring is the ambient project of Jørgen and his first E.P. was released earlier in March. It is an interesting E.P consisting of only four tracks, but each track has so much to give with a huge range of instruments used to create a dark, and somewhat mysterious sound, that create melodies in such a unique way.
The first track on the E.P. is entitled “Catacombs of Hate” and is a definition of beauty with a mixture of guitar melodies written in such a way that a dark and mysterious atmosphere and energy is present on the track. The song itself is complete with a beautiful ambient sound which is very powerful as well as eccentric.
The second track on the E.P, “Åpenbaring” uses again a range of different melodies to create a dark feel. Later on in the track symphonic melodies are also used to create a more beautiful yet calm sound. Another track full of mystery and energy.
The third track, “The Beauty of Nature”, creates another calm sound filled with lots of beautiful melodies which again conjures a dark atmosphere that almost transports the listener to another world. It is a track that is quiet and subtle yet the atmosphere and energy behind the track is powerful and unique in its beauty.
Closing the E.P., “Decay” links flawlessly with similar melodies written in a way that is mysterious yet the melodies are lighter on this track than on others. Later on in this track different effects are used with more symphonic melodies to create a darker atmosphere.
This impressive E.P has so much to give in terms of the melodies, instruments used and the atmosphere that the tracks create and shows the real power and beauty behind music. An excellent first E.P.
