100-Word Review: 1000 Mods – Vultures

1000 Mods - VulturesVultures is the sophomore release from Greek band 1000 Mods. It came out on May 30th, but as ever I’m working my way through a pile of around 200 releases so I’m somewhat behind the times! The band are labelled as psychedelic/stoner rock and recommended for fans of Monster Magnet, Kyuss, Clutch, etc.

Now, psychedelic stuff really doesn’t hold my interest but I’m finding quite an interest in stoner rock recently, mainly due to a lot of other new releases. It’s a genre with a wide variety of acts in it, and I’d put 1000 Mods more into this category than the psych one.

Vultures is slow, but driving from beginning to end with a wonderful 70’s feel to it. It’s loose, carefree and rough around the edges – just like rock should be. No airs and graces, you just take it as you find it… tripping around, chilling out and nodding its head.

Listen to album opener “Claws” below on Bandcamp, from where you can pick up the album if you like what you hear.
