Mozaics are a formidable four-piece with a clean, very well-produced sound just perfectly pitched for the mainstream radio. When you’re a fan of heavy metal, rock and especially grunge, there is a temptation to roll the eyes at a band like this for not being, somehow, ‘alternative’ enough. I don’t suppose they would have been to Kurt Cobain’s taste… But hey, they are here now and they are going places.
With only a handful of songs and not even an EP or album to speak of yet, they have already had an impressive amount of airplay for their new track “Always Want You”. BBC Radio 1, Amazing Radio and Radio X can already vouch for the momentum this mightily talented lot are creating.
The track builds from a percussive start with a catchy drumbeat and tense vocals into a wide soundscape with synthed strings not too dissimilar to White Lies but with a more upbeat and lighter all-round sound. It is a bold, bouncy, accomplished song and it’s easy to imagine the festival crowds singing along.
Mozaics to me are more foot-tapping than head-banging and probably more cup of tea than JD but I have been humming this tune all afternoon and look forward to the next release.
Grab the single on iTunes from October 28th – if you can bear the wait.
