Inferno Imminent – Competition Winning Bands Announced, Saturday Schedule Adjusted

Heads up, it’s less than two weeks before Inferno Festival kicks off – and don’t worry, we’ll be there on your behalf if you can’t make it. As things stand there are a few tickets left for the Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The following from Inferno Central…

We’ve now announced our two competition winners that will perform at the John Dee stage Friday March 31st and Saturday April 1st.

Necronautical

The first winner we’d like to congratulate with a spot at the festival is Necronautical from the UK that will play Saturday March 31st. Make sure you catch them as the 1st band playing at the John Dee stage that night.

Necronautical formed in 2014, self releasing their debut album Black Sea Misanthropy that same year. The album received high praise from critics and fans alike, and established Necronautical as one of the most promising and unique bands among the flourishing UK black metal scene. The album caught the attention of the newly resurrected Cacophonous Records, who signed Necronautical for the release of their second album.

The band recruited Slugh on drums in 2015 and set about recording their second album. Necronautical released The Endurance at Night in the summer of 2016 via Cacophonous Records, and with a music video for the song “Nihilartikel’. The album received high acclaim from critics and saw the band featured in magazines such as Metal Hammer (UK) and Power Play (DE) among others.

Necronautical made their live debut opening for Black Metal legends Dark Funeral at the Underworld in London. Becoming known for their powerful and immersive stage presence, went on to complete a full 14 date tour supporting Winterfylleth, Wiegedood and Fen across Europe and the UK in support of the album, as well as frequent appearances at several prestigious festivals in the UK and overseas.

Empyreal

We’d like to congratulate our 2nd competition winner of 2018, Empyreal from Germany. They will be the 1st band playing at the John Dee stage Sunday April 1st.

The roots of Empyreal reach back to the year 2012, when guitarist Dennis Schneider founded the – then unnamed – band as a studio-/solo project. Coming mainly from a death/thrash background (Soul Demise, Final Breath, Retaliation, amongst others), his musical vision shifted to Black Metal, without ignoring the death/thrash roots. Since the first demo material has had enormous success in his local circle, a decision was made to abandon the solo paths and form a full band in order to promote the music appropriately: The birth of Empyreal.

Since 2014, Jonathan Keller (drums, ex-Vehemenz, ex-Häxan), Michael Bachmann (vocals, ex-Shattered), Heiko Heckner (bass, Retaliation), and Tobias Gold (guitar, Infected Autoritah) joined the band – all of them being seasoned musicians with many years of experience in well known southern German bands.

With this lineup, the band recorded their first EP Psalms Of Forlorn Hope, consisting of 4 songs with a total duration of 25 minutes. The EP was produced by Dennis Schneider in collaboration with Michael Bachmann in Dennis Schneider’s own Mainblast Studios, where many other local bands such as Mastication Of Brutality Uncontrolled, Provocation and Retaliation have already been produced.

Psalms Of Forlorn Hope was released on Dec. 17th 2016, with the release show taking place on the Winter Madness Festival in Bamberg. During the first half of 2017, several club and festival shows together with bands such as The Ruins Of Beverast or Rogash were played in support of the EP release.

Stylistically, the band mainly plays blackened death metal, while also including strong influences from other genres such as post black metal and thrash metal, making for a very diverse listening experience. Next to the search for further live shows, the band is currently working on the production of its first (still untitled) Full Length CD, with the release being scheduled for the second half of 2017.
