Welcome Sinister Visions – an ethical record label

Craig from startup label Sinister Visions got in touch recently to tell us about this new company and it’s news we thought we should share. From the perspectives of both bands and the paying public, it seems that Sinister Visions may well have something different to offer with their focus on ethical business.

This focus is divided into three main areas. I’ll let Craig explain:

1. Artist friendly – our business model is this… our bands will be paying for their own studio time, engineering, mixing and mastering. The label will be covering the costs of putting these releases onto CD, cassette and/or vinyl. We will also be covering any other costings. Profit from the sales of music will be split 50/50 with each band. Also, we won’t be taking a cut of merch sales from gigs.

2. Business ethical – where possible we will insist on using recycled materials. We have been sourcing digipaks made from recycled materials which feature CD holders made out of recycled egg cartons! The costings are not that different than using traditional CD cases.

3. Donating to charity – every month, we will be donating a minimum of 10% of our profits to mental health charities.

If you’re interested in supporting this startup, then check out their Kickstarter campaign. There are plenty of pledge rewards including an imaginary high five and some nice looking t-shirts, or the chance to be an executive producer. Maybe you’d like a band to play in your living room? That’s there as well.

They also launched their Facebook page yesterday, so it’s a little spartan but we’re sure will grow in time!
