OK, so black metal band Thus Defiled aren’t exactly sharing eco-friendly cocktails with The Edge. However, they are kicking off Sweet Relief’s “most eclectic playlist ever” (also embedded below) on Spotify alongside the Irish stadium-fillers, Nicki Minaj [Who? Mosh], The Beatles, Katy Perry, Ray Charles and more. Thus Defiled’s contribution is the blistering, eight minute long, solo-packed savagery of “Of Shadow And Storm”, most recently available on the band’s An Unhallowed Legacy.
Sweet Relief provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems. Thus Defiled front man Paul C commented:
It’s pretty crazy to see Thus Defiled lined up alongside legends like The Beatles or Ray Charles, let alone modern pop artists like Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj. But Sweet Relief is an awesome charity that pulls in support from all sides of the musical spectrum, we just happen to be on the more extreme end of this. We’re there to support the awesome work that they do and to pay tribute to the sadly departed Chuck Schuldiner who was involved with the charity and whose music we cover on the A Return To The Shadows EP.
Thus Defiled are keen supporters of Sweet Relief, having requested fans donate to the charity when downloading new digital EP, A Return To The Shadows. The EP features covers of classic tracks by Metallica, W.A.S.P., Morbid Angel and Death. Death’s Chuck Schuldiner was himself involved with Sweet Relief before his passing in 2001.
A Return To The Shadows is available exclusively from the Thus Defiled website.
