Rock Radio – help get it back in Glasgow

Rock Radio crew 2007An open letter sent from Tom Russell to all who’ve signed up to the mailing list came through today. Makes sense to get it out to more of you and encourage you to Like the campaign’s facebook page, and head to the website and sign up!

Oh, and share the hell out of it!

Take it away, Tom:

I’ve had the honour, and pleasure to play rock tunes on the radio in Scotland for something like 36 years. The Friday Rock Show that I hosted on Radio Clyde for 25 years has some great memories but my 8 years on Rock Radio in Glasgow was something special.

Not everyone likes Rock and Metal music but there are  a lot of people, of all ages, who do. And historically, they’ve not been catered for. 96.3 Rock Radio in Glasgow was catering for them, we had so much fun, both the team and the listeners, we were a family.

Sadly, once the suits got more involved, the station output became bland and repetitive and that’s something that will not happen if we can launch Rock Radio Glasgow. There’s plenty of great songs that we can play without repeating the same playlists over and over.

Please take a moment to email the powers that be to show your support for Rock Radio Glasgow and help bring the station back. Ofcom welcomes views from the public about the local radio needs of listeners in the West of Scotland, and the type of station required. These should be e-mailed to

If we can get back on air, I will be doing my level best to continue doing what I’ve done for all these years – that is, playing a wide selection of rock music both old and new, well known rock classics, great album tracks, new releases, introducing new bands, plugging the live music scene, giving new young local bands some airplay and having a laugh, of course.

Thank you

Tom.
