Atlanta’s southern rock kings Blackberry Smoke are set to release their fourth studio album, Holding All The Roses on 9th February 2015 through Earache Records.
Produced by studio legend Brendan O’Brien (AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, The Black Crowes), the newie follows hot on the heels of August’s double live album/DVD set, Leave A Scar; Live In North Carolina, (reviewed here) which romped into the album chart at #35 and February’s Top 30 album, The Whippoorwill. The album cycle saw the five piece make three visits to the UK, with each batch of dates selling out in advance, even with numerous upgraded venues.
Frontman Charlie Starr enthuses about working with Brendan O’Brien; “It was everything we’d hoped it’d be – and more. We’d wanted to make a record with Brendan since we started the band, simply because he made all our favourite records of the early to mid 90’s, starting with the first two Black Crowes records, Four Horsemen, Raging Slab, Dan Baird…then into Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen…. It was fabulous and an honour to make music with him. I just think it’s best record we’ve ever made.”
With plaudits across the board from MOJO, Classic Rock, The Guardian and The Times, the future for Blackberry Smoke looks bright. A BBC Radio 2 “Bob Harris” session and a Google session are yet to air and the band have been picking up airplay from Radio 2, Planet Rock and Team Rock Radio. Plans are afoot for a live return for the Summer. Watch this space.
