As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Earthbound – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Hertfordshire, we all went to school together in Hitchin.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We released our debut EP Endure in October of last year, and we have been playing gigs as Earthbound since the January this year but 3 of us have been jamming since we were 16. When Chris, our bassist joined the band, was when we created Earthbound.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It is influenced by all our interests, it is an album by Bury Tomorrow, it is a live album by King Crimson, it is a video game…so it could be any of those!
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We are a melodic metal band that fuse all our favourite elements from across the metal genre. You can expect big choruses, fast melodeath riffs and progressive elements across our music. We think our blend of genres keeps our music fresh and exciting. We aren’t ones to put ourselves in a box when it comes to our music.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live show is an energetic and high-octane experience, so you can expect lots of headbanging, crowd participation…and hair!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Some of us have been before, and it is a fantastically run festival with an incredible atmosphere, so it is going to be absolutely amazing to play there, and enjoy this year’s incredible line-up.
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it?
We entered the competition to gain gig experience and to engage more with the Hertfordshire metal scene, which have welcomed us with open arms.
Which region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We won the Hobgoblin Online Video Submission competition, but we were also finalists for Metal to the Masses Hitchin.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
We will be playing tracks from our debut EP Endure, as well as a track from our upcoming EP. You can check out the videos for our tracks “Mother’s Ruin” and “Eve of Tomorrow” on our YouTube channel.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
We are excited to see Orden Ogan, Alestorm and VOLA so hoping we don’t clash with those guys!
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently recording our second EP, we released our debut EP Endure last year and so are really excited to release the follow up.
Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Red Bull, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
