As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Cranial Separation – Jägermeister Stage, Saturday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re from South Wales. 1 from Cardiff, 1 from Ebbw Vale, and 1 from Newport.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We formed in 2016.
Where does the name of the band come from?
It was inspired by a work in progress title for a song from a previous project that was taken up after the song was scrapped.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We blend old and new styles of traditional death metal and then chuck in little bits of the technical and grind styles, playing riffs we like instead of going for anything in particular, this allows us to be more flexible and varied in our playing.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
We put out as much crazy as we can (given we are a 3-piece) with some choreographed moments to make you laugh. Also for Bloodstock we are raising money for extras for our show so we can have the most mental crowd possible.
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
Yeah, we have; Ankou (drummer) has played before with Agrona, and Ray has performed with his previous band Sodomized Cadaver, however we have all been there before as fans numerous times and love it every year.
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We entered this year’s South Wales M2TM primarily to garner more of an audience on our home turf. We never expected to get as far as we did, most of our audience are either overseas or outside of Wales due to how we have been promoting/touring since our formation.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Fast and heavy with plenty of blast beats.
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
We hope we’re not clashing with A Forest of Stars, Septic Flesh, Alestorm, Cannibal Corpse, or Combichrist.
What are you working on at the moment?
We are currently remixing and remastering our EP before we finish up our full length. We are also working on gaining more shows for next year, videos and other promotional works are also under way.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We have thrown out sex toys for people to use in the pits at our most recent show which included stage divers and indoor crowd surfers which was a first for us.
Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Red Bull, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
