#RoadToWildfire2018 – KilliT

Much like we endeavour every year before Bloodstock, this year, for Scotland’s Wildfire Festival which kicks off on 22nd June, we’re interviewing every band set to play the stages of Wiston. You get to hear (or read) right from the horse’s mouth who you should be watching over the course of the weekend.

Previous years have seen some excellent acts grace the stages as our reviews can attest to and trust us when we say this year is no different! So get reading and listening so you can plan your coffee/beer/food breaks accordingly…

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

KilliT

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Well, in our band, it’s not that simple, actually. We’re based in London but there are 4 different nationalities in the band. Gaz (vocals) and Ben (bass) are British, Niro (guitar) is from Israel, Pete (drums) is from Hungary and I am from Switzerland (Claire – guitar).

How long have you been playing together as a band?

I joined in April 2017, but the band was born at the end of 2015, I believe. The first lineup was different, only Niro and Pete have been there from the very start.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The guys told me that initially, the band was called Loud As Fuck… Thankfully, they realised it wasn’t the best name so they had a long meeting and finally the previous singer of the band came up with the name KilliT.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

In my opinion, what makes the music of KilliT unique is the combination between old-school/classic 80s hard rock on one side and modern vocals on the other. This is what really resonated with me when I first heard the first album Shut It Down a few days before I joined the band.

What’s your live show like? Why should people watch you?

People should come to our show if they wanna see a real badass rock and roll show, full of energy! We absolutely love playing live and giving everything we’ve got on stage. Come to see us and enjoy the party!

Have you played Wildfire before? If so, when?

No, we haven’t! We’re excited for our first time there!

What sort of setlist can we expect?

You can expect loads of fast, groovy, heavy and riffy songs, with a couple of slow and mid-tempo ones just to get the right balance.

Which band are you most looking forward to seeing?

We’re looking forward to catching our mates from Ryders Creed and Dead Man’s Whiskey. We’ve played with both of them before and they know how to rock!

What have you got planned for the second half of 2018?

At the moment, we’re writing and recording the second album (so the first one with the new lineup). We are releasing the music video for the first single “Love Is The Chemical” really soon. Also, we’re playing the Stone Free festival at the O2 Arena in London on June 16th and the Isle of Wight Festival on June 22nd (the day before we play Wildfire actually). All our other gigs will be announced on our website.

What’s been the highlight for the band’s career so far?

We’ve played some awesome festivals and venues, including Ramblin’ Man Fair last year, a headline show at the Underworld in April, Hard Rock Hell 2017, Giants of Rock 2018. Personally, just being part of a band like KilliT is already a highlight in itself. We’re working constantly to make it happen and everyone is super cool and supportive with each other. It feels really good!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Personally, I remember really well the wildest thing I’ve done. It was also probably the most painful one! We were opening the main stage at Giants Of Rock in Minehad last January and we were reaching the last song of the set. As I’m starting the song, I thought it would be a really good idea to play the intro in the pit, to be closer to the audience. Unfortunately, it was really dark and I underestimated the height of the stage and also where it physically ended. So I jumped off stage, tripped on the edge and smashed myself and the guitar against the metal barrier. My PRS broke in half instantly but fortunately protected me from the impact. Really scary at the time but we’re just laughing about it today!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Supporting Guns N’ Roses would be mental! A few years ago I would have said AC/DC but without Brian and Malcolm it’s just not the same anymore to me… To open for us, I would choose Hide Your Mother from London. Gaz and me saw their first gig last week and it was awesome! Definitely a band to check out!

What day/time are you playing at Wildfire? (If you have your slot yet!)

We’re playing on the 23rd, which is Saturday. Don’t remember what time though!

Pistonhead Lager, Cloven Hoof rum or Thistly Cross cider? And yes, we’ll be counting the votes!

Cloven Hoof rum all the way!
