#ROADTOBOA2017 – Netherhall

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Netherhall – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Sunday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are all from Great Barr, Birmingham.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

It’ll be coming up to two years now.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It’s a funny story. In Great Barr, there is an abandoned mental asylum called St Margaret’s Hospital, most of which has now been built over. As kids, we would often go there in the early hours, in hope that we would see ghosts. We scared ourselves shitless but never saw anything. The road, which the asylum was built on, is called Netherhall Avenue, and there you have our name.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I think in this day and age it’s very hard to be unique, but we try to put our own spin on the genre we love the most.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We bring a high energy show with a blend of atmospheric echoes and dark heavy riffs.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

Yes. I (Tom) went to see Mastodon and Gojira last year. It was great experience, I really found the festival inviting and the general atmosphere was awesome. Seeing Mastodon and Gojira was pretty great too!

Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?

We entered the competition with the goal of reaching the final of the Birmingham region. The fact that we won is a phenomenal achievement and we couldn’t be more ecstatic to be playing on the New Blood stage.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We are currently working on the setlist for Bloodstock so we aren’t even sure yet!

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

It would be Ghost.

What are you working on at the moment?

We are writing more material for our next release. No doubt that material will debut live soon as well.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Probably seeing Airbourne at Download. Frontman Joel o’ Keefe climbed the main stage scaffolding in the rain. They cut the sound until he got down!

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

We are split on this one. Tom and Jake – Yager, Lewis and Paul – Hobgoblin
