#ROADTOBOA2017 – Hundred Year Old Man

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Hundred Year Old Man – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Saturday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Leeds! (Leeds! Leeds!)

How long have you been playing together as a band?

Our first gig was Nov 2015. We were writing together for a few months before that, but the first idea of the band started when three of us spent an afternoon making noise sometime in 2013 which turned into the first EP.

Where does the name of the band come from?

It came from a speech by writer Harry Leslie Smith.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Like the bastard child of Cult of Luna, The Ocean, Amenra and every under-appreciated band from the 90’s metal/hardcore scene.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

Because we can pay you… In all seriousness our live show is a sight to behold. Insane levels of energy and complete disregard for personal safety. Plus we have pretty lights.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

One of our guitarists has been. He vaguely remembers kneeling in a tent with his arms crossed in the air while Manowar was blasted out through the speakers. He spent the entirety of his time there (including the journey) drunk, so memories are hazy… but evidently he had a great time!

Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?

We were in the Lincolnshire heats and not a bloody chance. Still think we’re being punked at this point.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

Short but sweet. Well, about as short as a band who write 10-minute long songs can be. It seems short to us as we’ve never played more than four songs in a set.

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

Definitely Municipal Waste.

What are you working on at the moment?

My Xbox gamerscore, our beards and my eventual induction into rehab…

We are also heading out for a brief tour this week with our mates in Archelon. We’ve just announced our first release via Gizeh Records and are looking to hit Europe in the new year (book us). This is all while working on new material and a few new announcements to come.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Crowd surfed across a basement show crowd and half ripped off a crust punk’s beard! Good times.

Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

Hobgoblin with Bulleit and Kraken chasers.
