#ROADTOBOA2017 – Embodiment

As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 10th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!

Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.

Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!

Embodiment – New Blood Stage, Friday

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re from the South-west of England, hailing from the Bath / Bristol area.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

The band was formed in 2012 but our first gig was in 2013. There were a couple of lineup shuffles at first but the line-up has been solid since 2014.

Where does the name of the band come from?

The band is a reflection of us as people and when you listen to us or watch us perform the music is the ’embodiment’ of who we are.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’ve been described as a tech metal band but we try not to just put one tag on it. We enjoy a lot of music on the extreme end of the spectrum but the truth is we all love a bit of melody, prog and groove, something I think is reflected in our output. We don’t follow any trends or sounds, the music is just the output of four guys in a room making music that they love.

What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?

We’ll be bringing everything we’ve got to Bloodstock, all guns blazing. Expect face-melting shredding, throat-ripping vocals, neck-snapping groove and to quote this year’s M2TM judges – “Breakdowns fatter than a greasy American Dinner”.

Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?

I’ve been going to Bloodstock since 2011 (Harry) and it’s easily my favourite outdoor UK festival. The atmosphere is fantastic and it really feels like a gathering of metal fans celebrating everything they love about this type of music. The quality of the bands is always top notch and it’s always a good feeling to watch UK bands that we’ve played alongside being given a chance to play alongside legendary bands.

Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win?

This was our 3rd entry into the M2TM competition and we really feel we’ve gone from strength to strength every time, it really felt like we had sharpened everything up to do our best to win this year. We were in the Bristol region. It was a great competition this year, the organization from previous winners Mortishead was spot on.

What sort of setlist can we expect?

We’ll be playing songs from our debut self-titled album and throwing in some brand new ones that are super fun to play live.

We’ve spent the last year really honing our setlist to keep the energy and pace flowing throughout the set, allowing us to showcase both the heavy and melodic side of our sound. Expect to hear our single, “The Beast” complete with a new intro!

Which main stage band do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?

We’re playing on the Friday and we’d be absolutely gutted to miss Decapitated, they’re a huge influence on everyone in the band. Organic Hallucinosis is a massive album for all of us and their latest release is killer. I’d love to be able to catch some of it live!

What are you working on at the moment?

We’re currently working on a load of new material for our next album. So far we’ve got a fair few songs locked down (we’ll be playing three of them live!) and it’s just a case of spending some time finishing off what we have and preparing to go in and record. We’re hoping to be done towards either the end of this year or an early release for 2018.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

When we supported Bury Tomorrow in Bath, I (Harry) did a huge leap off the stage into the crowd during the set. It wasn’t until afterwards I was told my head brushed the ceiling, it could of been a total disaster!

Preferred tipple: Jager, Hobgoblin Ale, Kraken, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!

  • Harry – Jager
  • Kieran – Bulleit Bourbon
  • Finn – Kaltenberg Beer
  • Les – Jager
