Interview: Carl Ayers of Heart of a Coward

Carl Ayers Heart of a CowardAdded to the Machine Head tour package as an emergency replacement for Devil You Know, Milton Keynes noise merchants Heart of a Coward were understandably buzzing. You can tell by listening to guitarist Carl as we talked at Glasgow’s O2 Academy before their doors-opening-time support slot how excited the band were.

Despite being on at such an early hour, the band have been playing their hearts out to the first fans through the door and revelling in the experience of being on the biggest tour of their lives so far.

We talked about the band’s earlier visit to Glasgow in 2012, and how a band in the early stages finds its feet, and gets recording done while working full time jobs around the music! With a new album on the way, things are a bit more focussed for their third album. More details in the interview!

Keeping things seasonal, find out Carl’s favourite Christmas song (and if they cover it, I lay claim to planting the seed!) and his opinion on festive garb…

Thanks go to Nina at The Noise Cartel for sorting out the interview and to Carl himself for taking the time to chat to me in a chilly foyer!
