Gun support #BringBackRockRadio campaign with intimate acoustic show (watch it here)

DSC_0019For six lucky competition winners, last night was a little bit special as they had a chance to meet, schmooze with and listen to Glasgow favourites Gun rattle off a trio of acoustic numbers in the comfort of their recording studio.

Gun are firm supporters of the campaign to return Rock Radio Glasgow to our airwaves, having been involved in many of the Birthday Bash events during the station’s previous time on the air. In fact, Rock Radio could be blamed for the band reforming as they were asked to appear as a special one-off for the station’s first birthday!

Thankfully the group kept on going after that and have a new album coming up soon, as well as a recently-announced tour with Black Star Riders – including a pair of headline-sharing dates at Glasgow’s ABC. In addition, they’re headlining the #BringBackRockRadio Bash at the Garage on September 9th (tickets still available!).

Last night’s set was broadcast live on Facebook for all to see and it’s embedded below if you want to have a listen, as are some photos further down. The boys were in great form, and the sound was absolutely superb. There was no percussion, but I was assured by drummer Paul McManus that no Black Sabbath situation was about to kick off. It was purely because “drums sound crap on acoustic sessions” so he sat in the sound booth and enjoyed listening to his bandmates jamming instead.

Food and beverages were laid on by the lovely people at the studio, and the band posed for photos with all the prizewinners afterwards. A nice little night out and I have to thank the folk behind the #BBRR campaign for inviting me along.

For more information on the campaign, and details of how to help be contacting Ofcom, please see our earlier post.
