Band of the Day: Stew

Where this band gets its name from is my idea of a perfect night in.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Nicklas Jansoon: Lindesberg/Örebro Sweden.

How did you meet?

We live in a small town, me and drummer Nicklas Dahlgren are friends since 15 years back and have played in other bands. Also, vocalist/bassist Markus Åsland played in other bands and we’ve known each other for a long time and at the beginning of 2017, we started jamming and noticed quickly that we all drew our influences from the same kind of music! The rest is history!

How long have you been playing as a band?

Since early 2017.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

I personally love to boil up a good stew on a Friday night together with few beers and then we think our style is a good mix between classic and modern!

What are your influences?

Late 60’s and 70’s rock, blues and soul! That era is for us in common the absolute golden years of music!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Like I said before, a mix of classic yet modern rock. We’re genuine, play the stuff we wanna and hope that people notice that.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Markus writes all the lyrics and most of the lyrics are about everyday stuff.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

It’s right in the moment, heavy, hearty with a true passion for the music. We’ve played something around 10 shows so far.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

One time I got pushed into the drummer and fell over the whole kit… too many drunk people in the audience!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I play a Fender Strat from around 1992 and a Gibson SG ’61 reissue from 2010, the amp is a Peavey Delta blues and pedals I use is Crybaby wah, Octafuzz. Markus plays a Music-man amp from the late 70s and a Greco P-bass also from the 70s and Nicklas plays a Tama Starclassic kit and uses Zildjian cymbals.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

For now, our EP Hot.

What are your plans for 2018-2019?

Arrange and pre-prod for our full-length album and the recordings start at the beginning of 2019.

If you were second on a three band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you?

Imagine to support Free and Etta James at a small club venue!

A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or would like to.

Check out our mates in Hazemaze, a band from Stockholm Sweden who plays heavy and fuzzy doom!
