Band of the Day: Reach The Shore

England’s third-place rivals at the World Cup are capable of chucking out some great musicians as well as footballers. Here to prove the point are Reach The Shore…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

From Brussels, Belgium!

How did you meet?

From other bands, friends, relations and family.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Since 2012, so about 6 years. We’re still getting along very well (laughs)!

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It’s a metaphor to say “reach the end of a journey” or “reach your goals”.

What are your influences?

We have very different influences, from Silent Planet and Northlane to Deftones and The Underachievers. Linkin Park is also a big part of the development of the band.

Our vocalist Chris says Sam Carter and Eminem, and our guitarist Tony says Trivium.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We started with progressive metalcore and we’re currently aiming at doing hard rock ‘n’ roll. It’s very subtle, but you’ll get it when we release our new material.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Yes of course. Our first album talked about everyday life problems, belief, faith and struggles. Our latest album Hikaya is a story told by different people like the band or the characters of the story. It tells the moral revolution of a girl that seeks peace and that is becoming aware of the good she can do around her.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

That depends if you’re talking about on stage or backstage (laughs)! We’d say energetic, we give 110% of ourselves. I don’t know how many times our bassist locked his neck. He even broke his ankle once because Chris jumped on his leg. Almost one year of physiotherapy.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Like we just said, the broken ankle on stage is epic. We filmed everything and we even made a montage.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Gil, the drummer, plays on a Yamaha Rock Tour Series and Sabian cymbals, with Extreme 5B sticks. Thibaud, the bassist, plays Dingwall and Mayones bass guitars, Kemper amp and DarkGlass B7K pre-amp. Tony plays on a Chapman and Laney IronHeart. Damaso also plays on Chapman, and Duesenberg as well, and Axe Fx Ultra.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Right now we’re promoting the last music video of our album Hikaya. The song is called “Akhil” and we’re can’t be more proud to release it. It looks amazing and we can’t thank our guitarist Damaso enough for doing all the montage and everything and putting so much effort in it. Thank you Dam <3

What are your plans for the rest of 2018?

We’re entering the studio in July to record new songs in a while new style. We can really say it is Reach The Shore 3.0 and we’re sure people will like it.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Definitely Metallica to open for us, and Tupac’s hologram headlining.

From previous Band of the Day The Survival Code: Would you perform with an artist you didn’t like to get a higher profile?

Yes! Why, is there some offer on the table?

From another BotD, Snow Burial: What should the punishment be for a band that takes 20 minutes to get off stage?

In French, we call it “le jeu de la biscotte”. Search for the Wikipedia page and paste it on Google Translate.

And from Fyke: Who is your celebrity crush?

Thibaud: Scarlett Johansson

Tony: Poppy ASMR

Chris: Hayley Williams

Sébastien: Alexis Ren

Damaso: Mia Khalifa

Gil: Mila Kunis
