Band of the Day: Bleeding Gods

After Nick’s raving review of latest release Dodekathlon, we here at The Moshville Times wanted to find out what makes this Dutch dark metal band tick. So we threw over our Band of the Day questions and they attentively replied….

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from the Netherlands.

How did you meet?

Several occasions actually. Facebook, at festivals or at other shows!

How long have you been playing as a band?

In the current line up: Since April 2017.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The name comes from our lyrical subjects. During the demoing phase in 2012 there were some ‘gods’ included in the lyrics. Due to the brutal nature of the music, we decided to add ‘bleeding’ to it.

What are your influences?

Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Septicflesh, Kreator, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Belphegor.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Epic blackened death metal. We play death metal, but we added some black and thrash riffs and classical guitars to it and we are using orchestras, keyboards and pianos. These extra elements give us the epic vibe!

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Our lyrical themes are mostly mythical. With Dodekathlon, we chose to write a concept album. It’s about the Greek myth of the Twelve Labours of Hercules.

What’s your live show like?

It’s hot and epic! For the new shows, we are going to be using fire on stage and a lot of great stage props. We also have an awesome new back drop and other banners.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

The wildest thing I’ve seen is a bass player of a band pissing on the crowd… I think he must have a serious problem!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

A Pearl drum kit, for the bass a Hartke amp and a little magical and secret box for an awesome bass sound. For the guitars; a Kemper amp and a EVH 5150 III amp. Both guitarists and bass player use Hesu custom speaker cabinets.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Our new album Dodekathlon. It was released on January 12th via Nuclear Blast Records.

What are your plans for 2018?

Touring a lot to promote the new album.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

That’s difficult because there are so many awesome bands to be supporting. I think Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth are high on my list. A band who would open for us? I really can’t tell you…

From previous Band of the Day Saccage: How did you start creating music and why?

I was around 12 years old when I got my first guitar from my dad. Before that I was always playing metal air guitar on a tennis racquet.

From another BotD, Hey Charlie: What is your dream venue to play?

Backstage in Munich is on my list. But of course also the O2 Arena in London.

And from Huxtable: What is your favourite TV show theme?

Haha! Anything that’s from the 80’s. I’m an 80’s guy.
