Band of the Day: I Fight Bears

A couple of weeks ago, we featured an article exclusively unveiling the music video “Lost the Fight” by Welsh heavy metal quintet I Fight Bears. Now, the bad boys of Bridgend are back, featuring as today’s Band of the Day. The group are on the cusp of releasing their debut self-titled album, dropping early in 2018, which they have been tirelessly working on throughout 2017.

“Lost The Fight” pays homage to the now classic metalcore style which rose to prominence in the early noughties, yet does not limit itself to being an imitation of a much-loved genre, with I Fight Bears infusing much of their own style in to the track. Opening on a deliberately overly distorted guitar riff, listeners know that they are in for a good time from the get go, with the riff itself being a crunchy, groovy beast which demands to be heard. The riff goes on to repeat itself throughout, a constant reminder to listeners that I Fight Bears have some serious weight behind their music.

It is not until the chorus until the throwbacks to the metalcore scene truly arrive, with clean, melodic vocals linked with harsh, dry screams. It is as if the two are battling for dominance, yet with a battle so evenly matched, the only winner is the listener who gets to enjoy every angsty, blast-beat filled second of it.

If “Lost the Fight” is anything to go by, then I Fight Bears promises to be a furiously heavy, yet constantly catchy, collection of future metal anthems. Do your ears a favour and wrap them around “Lost the Fight” as soon as you can. You won’t regret it.

I Fight Bears will be released on the 16th of February and can be pre-ordered here.
