Band of the Day: Light the Skies

Light the Skies have just released their new EP, Human. We rattled the band’s cage and asked them for some more information and they duly threw the following back at us on a scrumpled piece of bload-soaked paper…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Birmingham, great city!

How did you meet?

We met at college in 2013, we were all super young and had terrible hair.

How long have you been playing as a band?

3 years now, we’re all sick of each other!

light-the-skies-humanBefore you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Haha, we got the name from an August Burns Red song, the lyric was ‘Light Up The Sky’ and we thought that was really cool, but we wanted a 3 word name so people could chant it when we get bigger.

What are your influences?

Our main influences would have to be Bring Me The Horizon, Issues and Don Broco.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We have heard people call us Dark pop or our personal favorite Popcore. We think our sound is unique because we have put together two very conflicting genres Pop and Metal, you either love one or the other, but we love both so we mixed them up

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

We used to write with really dark, deep and brooding themes but now one of our songs is just about being distracted all the time!

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We’ve played a lot around Birmingham, in total we may have played maybe 30+ shows, some have been outside of Birmingham too.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We’ve had a bunch of crazy things happen at a show, we’ve played in mosh pits, stood on Drum Kits, all sorts.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Will uses a PRS Tremonti with EMG pick-ups. Charlie switches between a white Stratocaster and a left-handed Ibanez (SA Series). Conor uses an Ibanez SR bass. Sam uses a Sonor Kit with Meinl Cymbals.

What are your plans for the rest of 2016 / 2017?

We will be playing a handful of shows before the end of the year; we will also be releasing a few things we’ve been working on musically on YouTube. 2017 will consist of new music, touring and a few music videos.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

The ideal line-up would have to be:
