Simple things first – where are you guys from?
St. Louis, Missouri
How did you meet?
Derrick (drums) and Matt Benne (guitar) met through our late guitar player Jesse. Derrick met Ryan (vocals) at a church camp they were both attending. After a few lineup changes, Derrick, Matt Benne and Ryan met Coco (bass) from playing shows with his previous band. In 2014 the band brought in guitar player Matt Amelung, who produced their 2013 release “Hold On”.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
At first we did what every other band does… we looked through dictionaries. Haha! But really, we decided on Fivefold because it essentially means five different units/things that come together to accomplish one goal.
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
Collectively, Bruce Willis.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We sound like how Bruce Willis looks. Rock.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Honestly, our lyrics have no bounds. They are about anything and everything, whether it’s something one of us has been through personally or something greater than all of us.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Have you ever seen a Bruce Willis movie? (only the good ones… psyche! they’re all good.)
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Amelung put his guitar through a drop ceiling at a small venue show. Needless to say, he had to pay for a new ceiling.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Ludwig, Meinl, Zildjian, Roland, Mesa, Orange, Marshall, Peavey, Gibson, Fender, Kemper, *this spot for sale*
What are your plans for 2016?
To unveil Area 51 as not a government research facility with alien technology but instead, our most-excellent practice space.
If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as support or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?
Underoath, A Day To Remember and everyone else.
What’s your favorite Beyonce song?
All of them.
