Band of the Day: The Conniption Fits

The Conniption Fits 192Another new band (to us, at least) in their own words. Ladies and slightly hairier beings, we give you The Conniption Fits…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Lebanon, NH Planet Earth

How did you meet?

The drummer went to high school with the soundman who introduced him to us.

How long have you been playing together as a band?

20 years! …if you include our previous band, Motorplant.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Well our live show is somewhat erratic with high energy similar to a Conniption Fit.

What are your influences – individually or as a band?

The Police, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Motley Crue, to new stuff, like The Shins, Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We have a poppy vibe and we write really good bridges. We try to make accessible songs that still have some element of unique interest.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Not really, although we try to write about relatable topics. Imagery is really important. For example, instead of saying “it was a hot, dry day” we’d maybe go for, “the cactuses stretched out along the roadside as if they were marching towards water”. Even so, sometimes the best lyrical ideas don’t fit the song musically and you have to make compromises.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Put it this way, we play every weekend. Thousands of shows. It’s an interactive, engaging, high energy show geared to get people up and dancing.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I (shawn, the drummer) took my pants off (underwear too) at a show back in the 90’s because the club owner kept complaining about being too loud.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Everything is digital and direct. No amps, no acoustic drums = no stage volume. Roland drums, F-bass, James Tyler Variax and a a couple of Line6 HDX pedal boards.

What are your plans for 2016?

To get recognized nationally by promoting our song “I Need You” on top 40 radio.

If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as support or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?

Wow, great question and a tough one! Definitely the Foo Fighters… we’d need to think hard about the other!
