Band of the Day: Andromeda

Andromeda - ShockAndromeda are a new(ish) act from Italy with a very distinct sound, details of which I will get to shortly. They’ve been together since 2006 when they released their first EP, and they finally completed a full album – Shock – last year. The release date was the 18th of this month, so it’s there for you to purchase now via Southern Brigade Records.

They class as a prog band, but I find that their sound is fairly close to a traditional metal one. However, they have made good use of keyboards and guitar tones to give a particularly sci-fi feel to the music. Not as far as to be remotely “electronica”, but certainly something which defines them.

Opener “Anime Dannate” had me thinking of the instrumental track “RADAR” from the original 1950’s version of The Day The Earth Stood Still. The keyboards tend to emphasise the music rather than lead the songs.

Lyrics are in Italian so, while I can say they’re well done, I can’t tell you if they make sense! That’s my fault, not the band’s though.

There’s not much online to check out beyond the track embedded below, unless you head to their label’s page to hear some stuff off the new album.

Open your ears – you could be pleasantly surprised. I was.
