Maplerun got in touch a few days ago to point me towards their newly-released video (see below) from current album Restless. Anyone who saw Skindred and Soil in the UK a few weeks ago may recognise the name as Maplerun were the opening act. If you missed them there (or saw them and liked them) then they’re playing Hammerfest VI this month.
Similarly to Skindred, they’re very much a sound of their own. I can’t quite liken them to anyone else, but on a heaviness scale think along the lines of Soundgarden. Together since 2007 and based in Europe, they’ve toured a lot and with many big names.
Restless is their second album and follows on from self-produced debut House on Fire released in 2008. The success of this release led to TV coverage in Greece and beyond and ultimately to festival and support appearances.
Who knows where they’ll be by the time they release their next album!
