Band of the Day: Ferium

Ferium - ReflectionsYou don’t get too many bands from Israel making waves in the metal scene and I know, from personal experience, that it’s not from lack of support.

I was once picked up in somewhere called Kibbutz Megiddo by a bunch of metalheads driving from Jersualem to Haifa for a gig (Salem and Betzefer). Israel’s not a large country (assuming you acknowledge its existence at all…) but it’s still something to travel the length of it for a gig. Actually, the details – including a gig review – are on my old travel blog.

As it happens, Ferium themselves actually come from Haifa and have been on the go since 2006 which is the year before I was there. I wonder if they were at the gig…?

Anyway, in that time they’ve released one EP and a limited demo release of their debut album. That album’s been picked up for worldwide distribution by Transcend Music and will be available to all and sundry from April 7th. Oh, it’s called Reflections and it’s pretty good.

Death metal with a hint of traditional widdlyness thrown in makes it darn heavy, but also easy to pick up and run with.

Given that they started as a Pantera / Lamb of God cover band, they’ve gone on to tour Europe and the UK (with more dates this year) and even managed a slot at Wacken in 2009. Here’s hoping that Reflections puts them further on the road to success.
