New Band of the Day: Darkest Era

I picked up this band from the news that they’re supporting Gloryhammer on their forthcoming UK tour. As soon as I mentioned their name around (and the other support who I’ll have up here tomorrow), I was told that they’re damn good. As it happens, I caught Darkest Era opening for Alestorm (the singer from which is the driving force behind Gloryhammer) in February last year.

Darkest Era play celtic metal and hail from Enniskillen/Belfast so they have every right to. They’ve been around since 2005, originally as Nemesis and changing their name to Darkest Era in 2007.

An EP release in 2008 was followed by a 3-song digi-pak in 2010. Shortly afterwards, they signed a deal with Metal Blade who currently host them. Their debut album The Last Caress of Light was the result of that contract and I’m sure there’s more to come!

Their official web page is pretty comprehensive, but their facefart page seems to be kept more up to date.
