Brief History: The Leadmill is as famed for the bands that have played there as it is for its club nights after the last encore has been played. It opened its doors in 1980 and has not stopped hosting gigs and club nights since.
Personal Experience: Of all the independent venues in Independent Venue Week this is my favourite, easily. The Leadmill, for me, is without doubt the best live music venue that I have ever been to. The sound, set up, stage, rooms, just everything about it I love. I first wandered in there in the early 90’s when local heroes Various Vegetables were headlining and have been to dozens of gigs since. Some of the best nights I have ever been to are here. Add into the mix that Sheffield has recently been voted the friendliest city in the UK and it’s easy to understand why.
