Mine’s kind of limited as it’s only really since September that I have been with Moshville Times and back in tune with discovering new music, so…
Best new album/EP: Argh, this is so tough to call. Torn between New Model Army’s Winter and The Virginmarys’ Divides but as NMA are a cosy old favourite, I am going to give my top spot to The Virginmarys. From the moment I heard their stuff this year I immediately wanted to own everything they had recorded and on CD as well. Divides popped into my postbox within days and has barely left the CD player since. Every track is a stunner.
Best new band I discovered: Bite The Bullet. These guys came under my radar locally while touring in Spain despite them being a Danish band. They’ve not toured the UK yet but with their new album due for release in March, I’m hoping we can help change that. They will make waves in 2017 with their fuzz/psych yet fun and honest style, and they utterly deserve to.
Best live show: New Model Army, Brighton, November
Best thing that happened: Started writing for Moshville Times (creepy I know!)
Worst thing that happened: Can’t think of anything bad musically… Everyone’s had a pretty crappy year and I won’t even mention politics. On a personal note my cat and dog died within a month of each other in October, but otherwise I am more one for remembering how blessed and lucky I am.
Overall opinion of 2016 in terms of music: This year (and especially the latter part) has been a revelation in terms of hitching a ride on the journey of discovering more great music; new and old. We are lucky that we live in a time where we have an endless opportunity to learn about, explore, share, appreciate, comment on and overall enjoy a plethora of rock music of all persuasions. For me, 2016 has totally rocked in more ways than one. There is so much good music around – and never let anyone tell you otherwise!
