Wildfire 2015 Preview

[avatar user=”Ross” size=”50″ align=”left” /]Festival season is almost upon us once more and Wildfire (previously known as Les-Fest) returns for its fourth year and second at Wiston Lodge.

Boasting its best line-up to date, Scotland’s only rock and metal festival has always been a great outlet for some of the best up and coming bands the UK has to offer.

With a relaxed atmosphere, you won’t find the crazy sights and antics you would in Donington. But that’s no bad thing; Wildfire encourages a family-friendly atmosphere with under-14s entitled to free entry. It makes for a great family day out and ease them into live events.

Being so local, I don’t take advantage of the camping option. However, from all accounts, the facilities are nothing short of brilliant and more importantly, there’s no fear over tents being raided. Much like the arena where you’ll find the bands, the campsite itself is incredibly laidback and you can camp right next to your car.

And how much does all this cost me, I hear you ask. A full weekend ticket with camping, parking your car and access to showers will cost you £60. That’s a whole weekend of great quality rock and metal bands for less than an AC/DC ticket on the same weekend. It’s also less than a day ticket to Download. And many of the bands appearing at Wiston Lodge could show a few of the big names a thing or two.

With bands like The Burning Crows and Diamond Head sharing the bill, you know you’re in for a good weekend. There’s also Mason Hill who impressed me as they opened for The Burning Crows in April.

But Sunday. Sunday is a line-up that makes me envious I’m not attending this year. The quality of these bands make you realise you don’t have to break the bank to see some great acts. Some of my favourite live bands are there on Sunday. With bands like Bad Touch (the first time they’ve been north of the border that I’ve missed them), Estrella make their triumphant return, The Toi make their debut alongside one of my newer discoveries (who I can’t stop raving about), Rank Berry. Now I’ve seen all these bands countless times and I’m sure I will again but I’ll likely never see them share the same bill.

Let’s not forget to mention, if you’re without transport, jump on a train to Lanark and a bus will chauffeur you to the campsite with plenty of time to set up your camp, re-fuel with a beer and still catch the first band on Friday. They’ll even take you back on Monday!

If all that can’t entice you, then check out some of the bands on their social media, watch a video on YouTube or just take the plunge, even if you don’t know a single band there. You’ll walk away a fan of at least one of them and have a great time into the bargain.

Wildfire Festival takes place between 26th and 28th June 2015.
