More about little ol' me

OK, folks. Quick way to get this lot started is to check out the table below. If you violently disagree with anything down here to the point where you want to send me some junk mail, save yourself the time and get a life instead. Everyone's entitled to an opinion and you're not going to change mine by sending me a semi-literate attempt to cram as many swear-words into two paragraphs as possible.

Likes Dislikes
South Park Yorkshire Cable not getting The Paramount Channel and dropping CMT
Loud music - the more metal the better My dad's ex-employers
Country music - though I prefer modern stuff to Hank Williams and George Jones et al Being skint
Douglas Adams My local council "student awards" department
Terry Pratchett Smokers
Living life on the edge (look at my bank balance...) Racists
My pets (they're back home and I miss 'em more than my parents!) Rave, house and all the other techno-pap that's infesting the charts
The Young Ones, Bottom, Blackadder, etc. All other "musical" acts involving 4-6 pre-pubescent short-haired gimps who sell records purely because all the girlies fancy them. This week. Until the next overhyped pile of untalented plop comes along (phew)
Musicals (Les Miserables, Rocky Horror, etc.) People who boast about doing drugs coz they think it makes them look well 'ard. Sad bastards
Going to gigs, concerts, cinema Censorship

Specific things that I really like change by the week, so there's no point listing my favourite film, book and so on. I read that much and see so many films that I'd spend more time updating this file that I'd have to skip meals! Check out the forthcoming link off the main index.page for brief reviews of recent films, and go to the Music Page for reviews of all the stuff I get along with a ton of other stuff.

So there's a selection at least. There are plenty of other things I like and dislike, but that's the main load. To get a bit more specific, my musical tastes are predominantly the loud stuff, but extend by way of Buddy Holly and The Beatles to Les Miserables, The Blues Brothers and Shania Twain.

As for cinema, I like a fair variety there, too. A good sci-fi film with great FX, a light comedy, something horrifically violent, or a kiddy film. I don't like romance too much, though, but I'll give anything a chance if it's meant to be any good.

I read an awful lot - as you can see I like PTerry and DNA. I'm a big Hitch-hiker's fan. I've got about 5 copies of each volume, two copies of the videos, display stands and so forth. Well, if I'm going to go overboard about one author, I may as well make it one who hardly ever releases any new material! I read a load of non-fiction as well as this, particularly true crime stuff. The more detailed the better - I'd recomend anyone to find a good autobiography of a forensic pathologist! Most of them have a warped sense of humour...

Just in case anyone's interested, you can even have a peek inside my old bedroom (newer picture soon), have a look through my current bedroom window during winter or see how (un)employable I am by checking out my CV.
Well, now that you know about me, you may like to delve deeper into my interests. To make life easier, I've indexed it a bit as I update some sections more often than others.

What's going on in my life right now...?

22/7/98 Bloody hell, it's been a long time since the last update. Anyway, what's happened? Well...
Still at the same job despite ICL trying to headhunt me. It would have succeeded (the job was up in Newcastle and paid more) but nobody bothered to tell me they'd had to cancel the second interview. So muggins here drove 100 miles to find nobody there. They never got back to me after that despite promises they'd call the next week. Who wants to work for a company like that, eh? Anyway, I'm perfectly happy where I am so sod 'em.
Other workwise, I start work at PC World (yes, I've sunk that low) in a fortnight. The pay's pretty good, actually, and it'll help pay off the debts and stuff. A new one on that long list is for a holiday to Tenerife which my good buddy Phil paid for. Thanks, Phil! Piccies from the night we got knocked out of the World Cup by a shite referee:
  1. Phil in facepaint
  2. Me in facepaint
  3. Lineker's Bar after Owen's goal
I also got to go on a rather cool Medieval night courtesy of work. It cost the grand total of £3 - my small payment towards a room for the night. I like Sphinx! Here's a few piccies from that night, too. More to come once I get the other film developed...
  1. Me in royal garb
  2. Jackie from work looking all maiden-ey
  3. Darren being Robin Hood or Peter Pan or something
  4. Group action - well, a picture of all three of us, anyway!
Right. That's probably your lot for this month!
24/5/98 Another gap in updates. Things have been hectic with the new job and the search for a house. Rachel and I are looking for somewhere in Leeds, or possibly back up in Newcastle so that when I do get a season ticket I won't have as far to travel to home matches. Mind, that'll stuff Rachel for her Bradford City games...
Aside from that, nothing much. Everything's going much as it has been, that is to say very well and so quickly! I was overpaid for the last three months - I didn't notice as it was just a new wage to me - and as a result I'm being underpaid for the next three to pay it back. Quite awkward as the pay I'm on now just covers my bills each month. Just. So I'm skint again.
9/4/98 Still liking the job I'm in now. I've got a luvverly new car, a slightly more shit-hot PC than I used to and Rachel and I are looking for a house together sometime soon. There's nothing much else to add at the moment, apart from that I'm really short of spare time hence the gap in updates. Sorry! Oh, I do have a picture of Rachel, but I'm forbidden from publishing it on threat of severe pain.
5/3/98 Another big jump. And another job. I kind of lost my last one, but that's OK. I hated it anyway. They took me aside on a Thursday morning and just told me to pack up and piss off. Seeing as I had a "doctor's appointment" the following morning, they paid me to the end of the week. That appointment was actually a job interview, the second I'd had since I started working there. It led to a further interview on the Monday and a new job the following week. A much better job. For a much better company. One which you wouldn't be ashamed to show your customers around...
The new employer is Sphinx CST, part of the Lynx group, and the position is Technical Account Manager. Better people, better environment, better job, better pay!
Yup, I'm still seeing Rachel. Nope, I still haven't got a picture of her. Well, I do but I haven't had it developed yet! Once it is and once I have permission...
